We're pleased to have Dennis Jones' artwork available at Wimberley Glassworks. His work complements and appeals to what inspires us in glass. As he quotes Georgia O’Keefe, saying ”I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way... things I had no words for.”
Artist Statement & Bio
D.R. Jones has been an art lover since his first childhood trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico. It was there that he discovered his affinity for color and form. Today, he is still a consumer of art, but he is a creator of art as well.
On that first long-ago trip to Santa Fe, Jones was astonished by the work of the artists he saw there, especially artists like John Nieto. As an adult, he began creating Southwest influenced paintings, with limited success, but he was seeking a personal style. He then discovered the Expressionists. As he says, “I loved the boldness of the colors, the simplicity of the composition, and the slightly skewed interpretation of the world.”
After studying this style, D.R. discovered that several of the artists that originally inspired him (such as John Nieto, above) were also influenced by Expressionism. He says, “I had come full circle”.
Now his work is less dependent on the style he admired in his younger days. He’s focused on moving forward to tell his own tale. He says, “the story I want to tell contains vignettes from my personal journey; starting with my small town childhood, enlivened with a rock-n-roll counter-culture sensibility, and leavened with an evolving social awareness”.
His goal is to communicate visually what doesn’t easily communicate verbally. He quotes Georgia O’Keefe, saying ”I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way... things I had no words for.”
D.R. Jones has participated in Group Exhibitions across Texas, as well as Santa Fe, NM and New York, NY. His work is held in private collections across the U.S. He now lives and works in Wimberley in the Beautiful Texas Hill Country.
Each piece is an original artwork, created with acrylic on canvas. Private commissions and larger sizes are available. Ask us about purchasing prints.
